Challenges

In this organization’s previous auctions, package descriptions simply told what the item was without any zest or zhuzh:

  • Leather handbag
  • Kid’s bike seat
  • Surf lessons

Fine, but not really enticing. The challenge with this event was to describe the items in such a way that participants would actually place bids and take the items home. We got close! Just a handful of the 80+ packages were left at the end, a great improvement over prior years with 15-20 items leftover.

Solutions

We kept the descriptions short and sweet, but used colorful language and intentionally painted a picture of a person using the item. A little zest can go a long way:
